Aftercare Instructions

  • Always be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before washing or touching your tattoo.
  • After a few hours gently remove the bandage (if you have been given a transparent bandage, see below for detailed instructions of how and when to remove before continuing to read) and wash the tattoo with warm water and unscented soap.  Air dry or pat dry with a clean towel. Allow your tattoo to dry out for 1-3 days.
  • After a few days you will notice that your tattoo has begun to dry up and flake or peel. You may now begin to apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizing cream or a plant based carrier oil such as coconut oil or jojoba. Apply moisturizing cream at least once a day and reapply only when needed – do not over moisturize your tattoo. Avoid using alcohol based lotions, please note we do not recommend the use of Polysporin or Vaseline.
  • Do not pick or itch at your tattoo as it begins to peel, allow the skin to breathe and peeling to fall off naturally.
  • Always keep your tattoo clean and dry. We recommend wearing loose fitting cotton clothing for the first few days following your tattoo. Avoid direct sunlight or the use of tanning beds for the first few weeks following your tattoo.  Avoid the use of pools, hot tubs, baths, saunas etc. while your tattoo is healing.
  • You may exercise with your fresh tattoo but be mindful of rubbing it against things and ensure your cleanse the area afterwards.
  • Note that the area may be swollen and sensitive for a few days after your tattoo, bruising is also normal. The area can remain sensitive for a few weeks following your appointment. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email the shop at info@riversidetattooshop.com

Transparent Bandage Removal:

  • Leave the bandage on for 3-4 days. Remove the bandage if it is peeling off and has begun to expose the tattoo or if there is an excessive build up of fluid inside the bandage. Do not re-bandage.
  • The transparent bandage is removed easiest in the shower. Gently remove the bandage by stretching away at it versus peeling backward. Cleanse the area with warm water and unscented soap, air dry or pat the area dry with a clean towel.
Begin to follow after care instructions ou tlined above once you have removed the bandage and you have cleansed your tattoo.
